This is the last week before winter break. We expect all students in Grades 1 - 8 to be present for classes this week. The High School Lab is closed this week due to testing. High School students, End of Course testing will take place this week. You have received emails with the information for your specific tests. Only students who are taking Math 3, Biology, English 2 (English 10), Business Essentials, Foods 1 or Animal Science will need to be here for testing. These tests are NOT OPTIONAL and you must be present in the building for these tests. If you need the shuttle each of these days, please let us know. The shuttle will run as follows EACH DAY:
Pick-up at West Oxford Elementary at 8:04 a.m.
Pick-up at Tar River at 8:31 a.m.
Drop off at Tar River at 1:43 p.m.
Drop off at West Oxford Elementary at 2:09 p.m.
There is a new IMPORTANT change to EOCs this year. Retesting will now count for students. What that means is that if a student does not pass the EOC, they will retest and we will take the higher of the two scores for their exam grade. Remember, exams count as 20% of the student’s overall grade. Every student who does not pass the EOC will be required to come in for retesting. Mrs. Randau will be in touch with students as soon as we receive their scores back so we can schedule retesting.
Starting immediately, on days where we have a two-hour delay, the entire day will shift by two hours. Should there be a two-hour delay, we will send out reminders. On a two-hour delay, drop off is from 10:30 a.m. - 10:55 a.m. and pick-up will be at 3:20 p.m. We will offer lunch but students must pre-order when they arrive. We will share this same information should we have a delay in the future.
Throughout the school year, you will hear me talk about the 5 main district initiatives which are: Safe and Healthy Campuses, Academic Success, Human Capital Management, Fiscal Responsibility and Communication and Community. This week I focus on Academic Success. We have received the results of the annual state accountability assessment. Information about this accountability assessment is in the attachment to this week's email. We want to do better and we cannot do this alone. It will take teachers, students and parents working together to bring our school score up to the level we know we can achieve. We have actionable steps we have already taken such as focused EOC reviews for High School students and afternoon support sessions for Elementary and Middle school students. In addition, we are bringing in high school students who have failed a course this semester for in person support next semester. We will also focus our efforts on at-home learning expectations so that students are able to access the curriculum and resources while at home.
